Oral history interview with Philip Welhausen, 1980 May 14.

Interview with Philip Welhausen concerning his experiences as President of Tex Tan Western Leather Company in Yoakum, Texas. He discusses his father's development of the leather tanning business in Yoakum, their line of leather products, and the effects of the Depression and World War II on the business. Welhausen also talks about tanning processes, saddletree production, the sale of business assets in 1956, the merger with Tandy Corporation, saddle promotions, their expansion into Canada and Mexico, his experiences with labor unions in Yoakum, as well as his views on pay systems, motivation, and piece work, the development of Western Sales stores, and his retirement.
